"Coastal Colors" 16x20 oil on linen, done plein air.
Today I sold a 16x20 original of "Snowy Shadows". It was a painting I'd done in the winter at Lake Tahoe with the warm reds of the bare alder bushes offsetting the deep greens of the forest and the beautiful long blue morning shadows on the snow. (Please see it under the Sierras collection on this site.) The collector, a past leader for me in BSF, has also purchased several others over the past 10 years, bless her heart. It's always nice to have people come to my studio gallery, see all the latest paintings, and get to choose what they love. As Kevin Macpherson advised me years ago, I really do find much more joy in selling paintings to people I meet in person than just getting a check in the mail from a gallery. (It's especially rewarding for me when they meet me on location somewhere doing a plein air piece, then have them buy it off the easel or come to the studio later and find they still love it and take it home signed, glazed and framed.)
This week I just finished sending in my entries for the jury process for the OPA National annual competition and also the Carmel Art Festival. I'll also be featured in the February issue of Southwest Art, in the special landscape edition. I chose a recent plein air painting, 16x20, of the coast south of Big Sur, called "Coastal Colors" for the magazine advertisement.
