Painting In Big Sur
I was thrilled to receive three awards at the Big Sur Plein Air event on August 19-22. I was given two Honorable Mention Awards for both pieces I entered for judging, plus I received the People's Choice award, which was voted on by all the artists and collectors who attended the wet paint sale/show. I painted seven pieces in 2 1/2 days, and was delighted to find a new favorite spot to paint down the Big Sur coast at Nepenthe. The Studio One Gallery owners also chose to keep four of my pieces to show in their gallery for the next six weeks. It was foggy each day until late in the afternoons, but it made for very atmospheric paintings and there was very little wind. Delightful, indeed!
Erin and Tom (the owners) sold three of the four they kept, plus I did another commission for a couple from Minnesotta, and even sold a small one to the manager of our hotel! The most exciting news is that the Studio One Gallery in Big Sur has invited me to show there full time now, a huge honor and they are delightful people that are very gifted at marketing.
